383ci V8-Powered 1957 Chevrolet 210 5-Speed

This 1957 Chevrolet 210 is a 2-door post sedan, built as a custom resto-mod around a 383 cubic inch small-block V8 rated at 425 horsepower by the builder, with full roller rocker heads, a custom Vortec-style head package, and a camshaft ground by Chet Wilson. Power runs through a Keisler RS500 5-speed manual transmission to a 3.70:1 Positraction rear differential. The car rides on a Dutchman coilover front suspension with power disc brakes, finished in a two-tone Surf Green over White Pearl paint scheme on Cragar S/S wheels with staggered Arizonian tires. The cabin was reupholstered by Mike's Upholstery in a green and white two-tone pattern, with a Classic Instruments gauge assembly, an Ididit steering column with a cream "La Carrera" style wheel, and Vintage Air air conditioning. The custom gauge cluster shows roughly 10,778 miles accumulated since the build, not the car's total lifetime mileage. The car is offered on dealer consignment in Wichita, KS.

OVERVIEW

The 1957 Chevrolet was the third and final model year of the original Tri-Five generation (1955 to 1957). The 210 sat between the base 150 and the top-trim Bel Air, distinguished by side trim running back only to the base of the rear door, versus no side trim on the 150 or full-length trim on the Bel Air. This car's VIN decodes as a 210-series car assembled at the Kansas City, Missouri plant. For 1957, Chevrolet's chief engineer Ed Cole pushed through a redesign that included a new dashboard, relocated air ducts that gave the car its distinctive chrome headlight surrounds, smaller 14-inch wheels for a lower stance, and the tailfins that define the model year's look. 1957 also marked the debut of Chevrolet's optional Rochester mechanical fuel injection, available on the 283 cubic inch V8 and good for 283 horsepower, the first GM production engine to reach one horsepower per cubic inch; it was a $500 option that most buyers skipped in period for lack of mechanics familiar with servicing it. Despite Ford outselling Chevrolet that model year, the 1957 Chevrolet went on to become one of the most recognized and collected American cars of its era. Classic Chevy Club International, founded to support 1955 to 1957 Chevrolets specifically before later expanding its scope, remains active for parts referral and event programming for cars of this generation.

EXTERIOR

The exterior is finished in Surf Green with a White Pearl roof and features chrome bumpers, beltline trim, and factory-style badging. It is a 2-door post sedan, retaining its B-pillar. It rides on Cragar S/S wheels, fitted with Arizonian tires in a staggered setup: 195/65R15 up front and 245/60R15 in the rear. Chrome trim, bumpers, and grille are intact.

INTERIOR

The cabin was reupholstered by Mike's Upholstery in a green and white two-tone pattern with diamond-tuck inserts, over green carpet. A custom steering column from Ididit is fitted with a cream-colored "La Carrera" style steering wheel. The dash houses a Classic Instruments gauge assembly, including a speedometer, tachometer, and oil, fuel, volt, and temperature gauges; the odometer reads approximately 10,778 miles, reflecting use since this gauge cluster was installed rather than the car's original mileage. Air conditioning is provided by a Vintage Air system. The front seat is a bench, not buckets. The dash has a retro-style digital stereo.

MECHANICAL

Powered by a Chevrolet 383 cubic inch small-block, built with full roller rocker heads and a custom Vortec-style head package, rated at 425 horsepower by the builder. The camshaft is a custom grind by Chet Wilson. Power is sent through a Keisler RS500 5-speed manual transmission to a 3.70:1 Positraction rear differential. The front suspension uses a Dutchman coilover setup, and the car is equipped with power disc brakes. The accessory drive uses a Billet Specialties V-Trac system. An Optima battery and an aftermarket amplifier are mounted in the trunk. The Vintage Air system provides modern HVAC capabilities.
