OVERVIEW

This Mustang belongs to the "New Edge" fourth-generation Mustang, built from 1999 to 2004, distinguished by its sharper, creased body lines. The 2002 GT's 4.6 liter SOHC V8 was rated at 260 horsepower and 302 lb-ft of torque, paired with either a Tremec TR-3650 five-speed manual or, as on this car, a Ford 4R70W four-speed automatic. The Mustang Club of America, founded in 1976 and now the largest Mustang club in the world, continues to support cars of this generation with regional chapters and event programming. Collector interest in New Edge Mustangs typically concentrates on low-mileage, well-documented survivor examples like this one; sub-10,000-mile GT convertibles with a continuous, verifiable ownership and service history are less common in the market than driven examples, and that documentation is the primary driver of value in this segment rather than any single rare option or color.

EXTERIOR

The car is finished in red, a deep, well-maintained finish with no visible fading or oxidation. It is a convertible, photographed with the top folded down behind the rear seats under a black tonneau cover. The body carries the New Edge generation's creased fender lines and three-segment vertical taillights, with a rear deck lid spoiler mounted above the trunk lid. A "GT" badge is fitted to the front fender, and the car rides on its factory 5-spoke alloy wheels, finished in silver.

INTERIOR

The cabin is trimmed in dark leather with front bucket seats. The instrument cluster is positioned ahead of a leather-wrapped steering wheel with a Mustang pony emblem. A factory AM/FM/CD-6 in-dash changer is fitted in the center stack, with manual rotary climate controls below it. Power windows, locks, and mirrors are standard, along with dual front airbags.

MECHANICAL

The car is powered by the 4.6-liter SOHC V8, rated at 260 horsepower, paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission (the Ford 4R70W) and rear-wheel drive. The GT upgraded to 4-wheel disc brakes over the standard V6 car's rear drums, with power rack-and-pinion steering standard across the lineup. The convertible top is power-operated.
