1966 Oldsmobile Toronado

Black sits on the Toronado's two-door hardtop body, hidden headlights retracting behind horizontal grille panels, rear wheel skirts following the fender line, the pillarless roofline running uninterrupted door to door. Re-chromed original bumpers are fitted front and rear. Body panels show no visible dents or deformation in photos; additional exterior views are in the gallery. Stock steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps.

The dark green vinyl holds the consistency of a proper restoration, with ribbed bench seat upholstery, showing no visible cracks, tears, or fading, with the piping on the front seat intact. Dark carpet runs the floor without visible wear or staining. A three-spoke steering wheel with a chrome horn ring faces the instrument cluster; the speedometer reads via a horizontal ribbon that climbs across the panel rather than a conventional round dial, one of the more distinctive detail choices in the interior. As shown in the photos, there is some seam separation in the back seat. The column-shifted Turbo Hydra-Matic selector runs below it on the column. Factory air conditioning is present, converted to R-134a.

This Toronado is powered by a 7.0-liter (425 cubic inch) Rocket V8 producing 385 hp and 475 lb-ft of torque. Power is routed to the front wheels via a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic 425 automatic transmission mounted ahead of the engine in a transaxle layout. The car uses an independent front suspension with torsion bars and a solid rear axle with leaf springs. Braking is managed by front disk and rear drum brakes, and manual steering assists are standard for the model year. The configuration permits a low floor and flat cabin for improved interior comfort.
